Underwater stereophotogrametric survey with 3D documentation
The workshop is one of the activities of the Educational Programme in Nautical Archaeology and History of Navigation: Sixteenth and Seventeenth century. It will take place from 10 to 15 September 2009 on a seventeenth-century shipwreck site near the Ratac Promontory off the island of Koločep. Participation in the workshop is reserved for institutions directly involved in the project.
The aims of the workshop are:
- to train young archaeologists and technicians in all techniques of underwater stereophotogrametric survey;
- to understand the possibility of rational future operational planning of scientific activity on the site based on the results of the stereophotogrametric survey;
- to learn how to use results from the stereophotogrametric survey for careful exploration of the site.
Techniques for collecting data on a shipwreck in the field will be presented over the course of five working days. 3D stereophotogrametric survey is the first phase of on site accurate geographic positioning. The second phase consists in measuring the relative grid positioned on the site. And the third phase focuses on stereophotogrametric photography and video filming.
On site data collection will consist of:
- 2D Orthophotographic plan of the selected area (with an accuracy of ± 5 cm);
- 3D geomorphology of the selected area (accuracy of xy ± 5 cm, z ± 10 cm);
- Combined 3D view of morphology with 2D orthophotography.
